Our vision, goals, and mission
Our vision is to support our community with a worthy engineering education that allows our students to serve in improving the civil infrastructure and economic well-being of the community. We look forward to maintaining a strong focus at undergraduate level so that our program becomes well recognized in the analysis and design of civil engineering works, and for a high quality education.
The program is dedicated to preparing students within three to five years of graduation to:
- Develop or become competent and engaged engineering professionals, applying their technical and managerial qualifications in the planning, design, construction, operation, and/or maintenance of infrastructure and the built environment.
- Use their skills in analyzing and designing systems, determining project implementation methods and materials, performing cost estimates and analysis, and contributing to directing technical activities for civil engineering projects or for projects of other engineering specializations.
- Be able to actively participate in their communities and professions by developing oral, written, visual and graphic communication abilities when working as team members or leaders.
- Embark on a program of continuing learning that may include studies that lead to obtaining work-qualifying licenses, or obtaining a higher degree in engineering, which provides continuous development of their technical capabilities, management skills, and the acquisition of professional experience.
- Improve their understanding of sustainability, professionalism, ethics, quality performance, and safety that allows them to be influential professionals in society when solving engineering problems and finding solutions in the field of civil engineering.
The Civil Engineering program at Al-Muthanna University was established to give its students a broad and detailed education in civil engineering fundamentals, applications and design, which will enable them to practice civil engineering at a professional level. The program's mission is to provide them with the confidence and experience needed to meet the technical and social challenges of the future. In addition to using modern engineering tools, the program provides education in mathematics, physics, engineering mechanics, and civil engineering to perform this task. Graduates will be able to position themselves in entry level civil engineering positions leading to professional engineering practices, and gain a solid university foundation that will enable them to continue their learning at higher levels.
- Ability to recognize, identify, define, formulate and solve engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science and mathematics.
- The ability to produce engineering designs that meet desired needs within specified constraints by applying both analysis and synthesis to the design process.
- Ability to establish and perform appropriate measurements and tests while ensuring quality, analyze and interpret results, and utilize engineering judgment to make inferences.
- Ability to communicate skillfully orally with a range of people and in writing at various management levels.
- Ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering issues and make intelligent judgments, taking into account the implications for financial, environmental and societal considerations worldwide.
- The ability to recognize the constant necessity of the growth of professional knowledge and how to find, evaluate, accumulate and apply it correctly.
- Ability to work appropriately within teams, set goals, plan activities, meet due dates, and manage risk and uncertainty.
