Department of Chemical Engineering
Chemical engineering is one of the fundamental engineering disciplines that contribute to the economic and industrial development of countries. The studies of chemical engineering include the processes of mass transfer, heat transfer, fluid flow, reaction kinetics, multi-stage separation processes, and equipment design. Through these processes, raw materials are converted into final products using industrial chemical engineering equipment.
Chemical engineering has developed remarkably in the twentieth century in various fields, including the oil and gas industries, petrochemical industries, food and pharmaceutical industries, fertilizers, detergents, dyes, batteries, paper, plastics, and so on. Because of the holistic and ingenious view of chemical engineers, chemical engineering has excelled in new and sensitive fields including biofuels and renewable energies, as well as in nanotechnology and the manufacture of nano-catalysts.
Given the actual need for chemical engineers in the country in general and Al- Muthanna Governorate in particular, the Department of Chemical Engineering has been established at the University of Al-Muthanna in 2008. To be qualified to work in industrial facilities such as production factories, students are trained to use laboratory equipment relevant to industry and modern software to simulate practical experiments in a progressive plan to develop educational curricula to keep pace with the latest developments in the field of chemical engineering.
The goal of the chemical engineering department is to produce comprehensively prepared and innovative graduates able to interact with the challenges created by the global economy. This discipline is established to cover the requirements of society and the country for both the public and private sectors.
The chemical engineering department aims to create an intellectual and friendly atmosphere of work and study for both students and staff to boost their appreciation of the culture and heritage of the country and to take their responsibilities in the society. The department offers supportive programs at the undergraduate level, besides providing training programs that help participants to acquire up-to-date knowledge that contributes to developing the chemical engineers’ community. It also provides research and industrial consultancy as a contribution to public services.
1- Preparing qualified engineers in the field of chemical engineering to keep pace with contemporary developments and meet the requirements of the country’s scientific and economic development plans.
2- Develop students’ skills in analysis, design, and operation. Also, supplying modern laboratory equipment and software to conduct and analyze practical experiments.
3- Develop their ability to communicate in a verbal and written way with scientific societies to visualize and explain work in a more sophisticated pattern. Also, to develop the students’ ability to conduct applied research that can contribute to serving the community.
4- Communicate with state service institutions related to the nature of the program by providing engineering advice and participating in or holding seminars and workshops.
5- Improving students’ understanding of professional ethics, sustainability, and occupational safety that allows them to be influential engineers in society by finding solutions to industrial facilities problems related to the program.
The Department of Chemical Engineering seeks to meet the needs of the country and the region for chemical engineers by providing high-quality programs in education, scientific research, and community services.
